Geographical History of Odisha






Odisha is not the old name of Odisha. Befor 1 april of 1936 Odisha is known as Kalinga, Utkal, Udra, Tosala, Trikalinga, Kosala etc.,  among  these name Kalinga & Udra is famous as same pronounce as the Odisha. Many people Kosala is used for Western Odisha site. Many Historian named Odisha as Orites, Urshin, Ursfin etc. Greek visitors & Historian Plininamed  Oritis in his book Natural History in 1st Century AD.  Acording to Stone inscription of Asoka in Hatigumpha Kalinga is written as Atabik state and Kharavela’s inscription written as Bidyadhar state. Atabik is written in copper inscription of Kanasa also which is from 6th century AD.

History of Odisha : A review




                 History explore the past through scripts and its not started in same time allover, therefore data of history may be differentiate place to place. Early men are invented to scripture. after about the 18 lakh years transforming process of human being just 5000 year before men developed script especially when Egypt, Mesopotamia, Chine, Harappan & Indus valley civilization devloped. Many other creative of human hidden in that 18 lakh years. Which is called pre historic period.  Archaeologist are create history story hidden in  prehistorical stones, arms made by animal bone, many objects used by that civilization.

                  In that archaeological survey Odisha added in 19th century. For first time VALENTINE BALL, a geologist discovered many adds of stone age in four place of Odisha in the year 1875. That place are, Burshapali of Sambalpur dist, Kalia Kata of Anugul, Harichandanpur and Dhenkanal. important thing that archaeological excavation is held at that period allover the world.

                    archaeological survey was very neglected after started in 1875. Again in 1923 restarted by Paramanand Acharya at vis own village Baidipur of Mayurbhanj dist discovered many adds. After that  discovered many things allover the odisha. Gopal Chandra Mohapatra, Archaeologist, Deccan College, Pune listed some place given below
Mayurbhanj : Baripada, Bangiriposi, Kuliiaana, Kuchai, Pratapur, Sirsha, Baidipur, Chitrata, Haripur, Kaptipada, Khiching and Manda.
Dhenkanal: Dhenkanal, Bhimkund, Hindol, Talcher, Harichandanpur and Durian.
Sundargarh: Jangra, Satakuta, Banaigarh, Bishra, Khadiakudar and Khuntagaon.
Keonjhar: Champua, Jagannathpur, ramala and patna.
Puri: Bhubaneswar, Udaygiri, Ranapur, Sisupalgarh
Kataka: MAthurapur (Athagarh)
Ganjam: Jaugarh
Sambalpur: Bursapali, kuda baga and Kuchinda.

                   After that many otherplace like Bolangir, Kandhamal etc. are also listed in stone age adds.
